Our History

Rural Society Development Association (RSDA) is a non-political, non-profit development organization established in 1984 in Kurigram, one of the most disaster-prone regions of Bangladesh. Founded by committed social workers, RSDA emerged to address poverty, river erosion, and social inequality affecting vulnerable communities. The organization works primarily with poor and marginalized groups, especially women, children, youth, and persons with disabilities living in char and river basin areas. RSDA promotes community-led development by forming local groups and institutions that encourage participation, savings, and collective action. Its programs focus on disaster risk reduction, livelihoods, health and hygiene, education, safe water and sanitation, environmental protection, and human rights. The organization combines humanitarian response with long-term development initiatives to build resilience and self-reliance. With a participatory governance structure and strong monitoring and accountability systems, RSDA ensures transparency in all operations. Through partnerships with government bodies and development partners, RSDA continues working toward a gender-balanced, poverty-free, and disaster-resilient society where every individual can live with dignity and equal opportunity
